“Are You Ready to Get Amped Up?”
Paddle and Trail presents a brand new series of adventure races that are sure to draw people from far and wide to challenge, test and push their overall adventure racing skills and fortitude. These hybrid-style adventure races have combined a kayak paddle, bicycling, running, and urban obstacle course components.
The 1st race was held in Aurora IL on May 27th. The 2nd event will be held in Rockford IL, with the 3rd race in the race series being held in Beloit WI in Spring of 2013. Each adventure race is specially designed to incorporate the local natural assets and terrain of the community (water and land trails, parks and recreational areas), with obstacle course components also included before reaching the finish line in the community’s downtown area. Most racers will finish the course in 2 to 3 hours time.
There will be four main competitive categories that individuals and teams can compete in: Amateur Division, Team Division, Youth Division and Pro Division. There are a number of adventure race training clinics available through the YMCA and Paddle and Trail leading up to the races. (Military, Police, and Fire professionals receive discounted entries.) See registration page for more information – http://ampeduprockford.eventbrite.com/
The Rockford Amped Up Adventure Race will also include the 1st Annual Rockford Health Expo which will feature local businesses that support incentives to live more health and active lifestyles. Aurora Adventure Race – Recap
“Aurora is in the Books… Another Amped Up Adventure Race is coming soon to Rockford & Beloit!”
May 27th was the debut of Paddle & Trail’s Amped Up Adventure Race Series in Aurora, IL. This 17 mile race featured running, kayaking, biking, and an obstacle course, on and along the Fox River from Aurora to Batavia. Like all races in the series there was a public benefit, in this case we raised money for the re-design and re-building of the Aurora Canoe Chute.
The weather on the day of the Aurora Race turned out to be one of the hottest of the year hitting 97 degrees but the racers raved about the running segments much of which was shaded by the heavy woods on the Fox River Trail. They also loved the biking portion which was entirely within the beautiful campus of Mooseheart. Many of our participants in this race had never kayaked before and they raved about the kayaking segment, a 3 mile downstream paddle from North Aurora Island to Veterans Island in Aurora. All in all, it was a great race and a great way to showcase all the wonderful outdoor amenities in the Aurora area.
The 3-race series continues October 20th in Rockford Illinois. We’re planning another exciting race using the beautiful natural assets in the Rockford area. Although this too is an Adventure Race, it may have different elements, distances, and obstacles… but that’s part of the fun! Join the adventure! Sign up to be a race participant, volunteer or sponsor. http://ampeduprockford.eventbrite.com/
Many thanks to the Amped Up Adventure Race of Aurora sponsors: Hollywood Casino Aurora, the city of Aurora, Ballydoyle Irish Pub, the Fox valley Park District, Mooseheart, the Aurora Area Visitors and Conventions Bureau, Cynosure Radio, and over 100 WONDERFUL volunteers!
