BCU Coach 1 The British Canoe Union is the recognized world leader in paddlesports' education. It is the only certification system generally recognized worldwide. The BCU offers 2 tracks; personal skill development and coach certification. The coach development track allows coaches to progress from introducing paddlers to canoes and kayaks in flat and protected water all the way to coaching on the open sea with tide races, overfalls and surf. BCU (UKCC) Coach Level 1 Combined Training & Assessment The new BCU UKCC (United Kingdom Coaching Certificate) Coach Level 1 is a 4 day program that incorporates a series of 5 mini assessments throughout the course. The Level 1 coach can plan, deliver and review short coaching sessions. They can work with paddlers at any stage of experience but receive special training to coach paddlers in their first year of development. Coach Level 1 is a general paddlesport coaching award, not discipline specific. Participants can expect to be paddling a variety of craft during the course including canoes and whitewater kayaks as well as touring boats. Our 2012 Coach Level 1 Program will be run as part of the Great Lakes Coaching Week (which precedes the Gales Storm Gathering). Coaches for the program include, Scott Fairty and Bonnie Perry.
